Why do you ask for a deposit?

If sufficient and fair protocols are not in place, I risk not being paid for the work I have done and you, the customer, risk paying money and getting nothing in return.

In order to ensure both of us get exactly what we agreed, it is necessary to ask for partial payment up front.  First, it proves that you are serious about paying for my service.  Second, you know that I will complete the work as promised because if I don’t, I won’t get the rest of the monies owed.

Can I submit more than one manuscript?

Yes, you may.  Whether or not I can accept more than one manuscript will have to be taken on a case by case basis.  My ability to accept them depends on the length of each manuscript and how big my current workload is.  That said, I would encourage you to ask anyway, especially if you are happy to negotiate a lengthier deadline.

What guarantees do I have when I submit my work?

When I agree to take on work, we both sign a contract that details:

  • Your rights as a consumer.

  • The cancellation policy for both parties.

  • The level of service I have promised to provide.

  • How much you have promised to pay and when.

  • When I have promised to have the work finished by.

You will be given 7 days to read the contract.  You are welcome to query any part of it.  You are also welcome to have the contract looked over by a legal professional such as a solicitor.

What happens if you cannot complete the work on time?

If for any reason I am unable to complete the work by our agreed deadline I will request a 7 day grace period.  If I am still unable to get the feedback to you, you will be given a FULL refund and 50% discount on your next order.  This will be included in the cancellation policy of the contract.

What if I disagree with your feedback?

Although my feedback is honest and constructive, there is always a chance that my interpretation of your story will differ from others.  You are under no obligation to make any changes I suggest.  That said, if there is any feedback you disagree with or don't understand, I would encourage you to raise it in one of your editing passes.

What if I change my mind?

If you have been given a quote and you change your mind, you will not be charged.  All quotes are obligation free.  Quotes will only be guaranteed for 7 days.

If, following a quote, you agree to the service, a contract will be drawn up.  You have 7 days to sign the contract.  This allows you time to read it carefully.  Once it is signed, you have a 7 day cooling off period.  When this period expires, the deposit will be due.  If you pay the deposit before the 7 days are up, you agree to waive the rest of the cooling off period.  Should you change your mind after you pay the deposit, it will be forfeit.

If you are experiencing financial difficulty, I am happy to negotiate some kind of agreement for the remaining balance.  You will not receive your work back until the balance is paid.

If you do change your mind and decline an arrangement for the remaining balance, the next time you request my service, instead of a deposit, the full balance will be required up front.

Do I need to credit you when I am published?

It would be appreciated but it is not necessary.  If you are happy with my service I would much rather you write a testimonial and recommend me to others.  It’s worth noting that I offer discounts for those who refer a friend and offer a testimonial.  Please see my discounts page for more details.

Do I need to pay you a share of the royalties when my work is published?

No.  When taking out my service, your manuscript remains your intellectual property so all royalties belong to you.  You do not need to pay me a share of the royalties.

Do you only read whole manuscripts or will you take the first few chapters?

If you would prefer I read the first few chapters of your work to be sure I am right for you, I am happy to do this.  Please see my price page for details.

What if my manuscript is only a few words over one of the price tiers?

All manuscripts will be charged at the appropriate tier even if it’s only a single word over the previous one.

If your work is a few words over, I would suggest giving your manuscript a quick comb over to see if you can eliminate those pesky extra words in order to get your word count back into the lower tier.
